Dental Assistant – Job #95 – Sherwood, QLD

We have a great role for an enthusiastic experienced dental assistant in Sherwood who would like to be fully trained in Extended Duties.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years experience and will have completed their Certificate 3 in Dental Assisting. You will be ready to commence a Certificate 4 in Dental Radiography if you have not yet attained it.

Extended duties where you will see the patients with your own junior dental assistant include:

  • Taking and pouring up alginate impressions.
  • Making whitening trays, removable retainers and mouthguards.
  • Coordinating lab work for the practice with our dental laboratories.
  • Using a 3D Intra-oral scanner to take images and upload for Orthodontic reviews.
  • Taking before and after images for patients with an Intraoral camera.
  • Using a Digital SLR camera to capture photos of patients.
  • Screening all patients with a Diagnodent.
  • Completing Saliva tests.
  • Completing paperwork to identify risk factors with patients for periodontal and caries risk for assessment with the clinicians.
  • After assessment with a clinician, completing Oral Health Instruction for patients as directed by the clinicians.
  • Intra-oral digital radiographs for patients.
  • Extra-oral digital OPG radiographs for patients.
  • Stock ordering using an online portal.
  • Handwriting thank you letters to your patients.

What this role requires most is a passion and enthusiasm to learn as we have great systems to fully train you in all the above extended duties.

You will be paid well above the award and this will continue to increase as your competence and confidence with your extended duties continues to grow.

You will also assist the principal dentist when completing treatment for patients including implant placement and restoration, complex crown and bridgework, rotary endodontics, fixed and removable orthodontics and routine restorative work. If required will have further training in ideal 4 and 6 handed dentistry.

This role requires your commitment for a 9-day fortnight from 7.30am until 5.30pm with alternate Thursday’s off. Patients will be scheduled in to see you, so an ideal attendance record is essential.

You must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to relate to a wide range of patients. Your computer skills will be advanced to enable you to complete documentation for all your patients. You will also enjoy working with systems and being accountable to attain a high standard in your clinical work.
